Since its formation in 2001, The CMCRC can boast several success stories resulting from its endeavours. Spin Off CompaniesAs a direct result of the applied research carried out by the PhD students, The CMCRC and its partners have established a range of companies providing innovative new products and services to enhance market integrity. Capital Markets Surveillance Services Pty Ltd (www.cmss-systems.com), in the four years since it was established has deployed real-time compliance services to 150 major brokers across at least 30 countries. Operating out of Australia and now London, Toronto and Amsterdam CMSS employs over seventy staff and is expanding rapidly. The centre has also developed products and services in the areas of accounting and audit surveillance (www.acas-systems.com), surveillance of the health insurance industry, and is engaged in projects in insurance fraud detection and has just completed a learning product known as TrADelab which is an exchange trading system that allows students to re-live a real trading session. EducationOne of the major goals of the CRC is to produce the finest industry orientated PhD graduates. Our Students, who are usually first class honours undergraduates spend at least three years doing their PhD's with us. To date the CMCRC has produced thirty seven PhD graduates with a further forty five in the system, which helps make us the biggest research centre of its kind in the World. AwardsReal time fraud detection technology Award for Excellence (2006) The FutureSince its reincarnation in late 2007 as a result of renewed Commonwealth funding the CMCRC has expanded its research projects into new uncharted domains. In particular, research into Text mining of unstructured data such as text will be of pivotal importance to the centre producing new innovative technology for Capital Markets over the next few years. Education wise, we will be increasing the number of PhD students over the next few years. We would expect that when the CRC hits its full stride over 70 PhD students will be in the system at any one time, making the CMCRC a significant research centre by World standards. |
