Launch of the Australia-China PhD Scholars Program by His Excellency, Mr Shan Hu, Chinese Consul General
The Australia-China PhD Scholars Program will be launched by His Excellency, Mr Shan Hu, Consul General of the Peoples’ Republic of China on the 29th May, 2009. This will pay tribute to a long standing relationship which has developed between Australian and Chinese researchers in the field of Capital Market research.
The Scholar’s Program is an initiative of the Capital Markets CRC and its partners and is designed to foster a closer working relationship between China and Australia. Initiatives will promote dialogue between scholars in both nations and encourage closer ties between universities and industry in both countries. Specialists are brought together to work on projects of importance to the Australian and Chinese finance industry.
Chinese scholars are enrolled at the Universities of Sydney, NSW, UTS and Wollongong. Two students are enrolled at the City University of Hong Kong. The scholarships are supported by industry sponsors, including the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (4 students), HCF, Insurance Australia Group. APRA, Schroders, Smarts Group (IT) and a number of investment banks. In total, 17 scholarships have been awarded to Chinese scholars, with total funds raised of $850,000 per annum.
“Our objective is to attract the very best Chinese students into our PhD programs, and to grow our engagement with China“, said Alex Frino, CEO of the Capital Markets CRC.
